Social activist arrested

Special Correspondent

BHUBANESWAR: Veteran social activist and advisor of Chasi Mulia Adivasi Sangha Gananath Patra was arrested by the city police here on Wednesday.
Sixty-eight-year-old Patra is known for supporting several people’s movements against displacement and land rights in different parts of the State.
Mr. Patra was taken into custody from Vivekananda Marg area of the city in the evening, police said.
Reacting to Mr. Patra’s arrest, Prafulla Samantara of Lok Shakti Abhiyan said the arrest was aimed at suppressing the mass movements against displacement and land rights as the State government was finding it hard to acquire land for different industries.
Chasi Mulia Adivasi Sangha was in news when two factions of the organisation clashed in Koraput district few months ago.
The main leader of the organisation Nachika Linga has been on the run for several weeks now as the Koraput police were looking for him for his alleged involvement in the clash.
