Maoists block the road connecting Malkangiri district to other parts of the State near Malkangiri on Saturday, as part of their nationwide bandh call in protest against arrest of Maoist leader Kobad Ghandy. —


KORAPUT: Maoists blocked roads by felling trees at more than one place in the districtas part of their nationwide strike on Saturday. They had dug up the road at Mantriambo near Boipariguda obstructing vehicular traffic between Koraput and Malakngiri districts and hung banners seeking public support to their strike on the road between Machkund and Lamtaput.Maoists have been blocking the roads by felling the roadside trees especially between Koraput and Malkangiri district over the last few months The tourism potential of Machkund has been on a declining trend with lesser and lesser number of tourists reaching the spot for the repeated threat of road blockades by the Maoists.
