Correspondent
KORAPUT: Immunisation performance was on a constant rise in the State over the years. While the coverage of measles vaccination was 81.4 per cent, the rate of full immunization coverage had reached to the extent of 62.3 per cent in the State which was much higher than the average national average, Srihari Dutta, Health Officer from the State office of Unicef said at Koraput on Sunday. He was at Koraput to attend an orientation camp being organised in the district headquarter hospital for departmental staff involved in the routine immunisation programme at the district, regional and State-level.
It was for the second time in the last two years that the Department of Health and Family Welfare was carrying out assessment of vaccine states in collaboration with Unicef to strengthen and further improve the immunization system all across the State. The current exercise was carried out with an active support and guidance of Kshem Prasad, an international professional on cold chain management and vaccine logistics from Pondicherry, added. This initiative would develop the State’s internal capacity in the assessment process and the analysis of the status on immunization, Mr. Prasad said.
Currently eight teams comprising of some State-level staff, programme officers, vaccine managers and experts handling cold chain were moving across the State for the assessment of all regional vaccine stores and selected vaccine stores in nine districts in the State, B.K.Panda, Joint Director, Rural Health in Orissa, who is also the State immunization officer said. In total 7 RVS, 14 DVS and 28 BVS will be assessed in the next 5 days.
