Tribal festival launched

KORAPUT: Parab-2009, the State level tribal festival was launched from Pedapadu caves near Ampavali in Pottangi block of Koraput district on Sunday. The launching ceremony began with Jayaram Pangi, MP, Koraput, lighting the main torch before the deity in the cave followed by lighting of the torches by officials from all the blocks of the district.
The festival which had begun in 1996 to bring out the latent talent of the artists and sportsmen by inviting thousands of people to the district headquarter has undergone several changes over the years including the basic format of the festival taking it further to the grassroots .
The torches that were lit would now be taken to the respective blocks where the block level festival will begin on Tuesday. Among others, Gadadhar Parida, district Collector, and MLAs of Koraput and Pottangi joined thousands of people who had gathered to witness the launching ceremony.
