Land dispute drives students out of school

Correspondent
KORAPUT: No one was certain on the whereabouts of at least 40 students in the age group of 5-10 years after they left their school for their home on Tuesday. These children, who were studying standard I to V in the UP school at Padabagri in Dasmantpur block of Koraput district were asked to leave their school premises with immediate effect by the family members of Phulmati Paraja, a tribal women of Bada Bagri for the alleged negligence by the district administration in conceding to their demands.
According to Phulmati, the land on which the school was built in 1959 belonged to Kandhuni Parajuni, her mother-in-law and was taken without the consent of the family members. The court of O.S.D. (L.A), Koraput , following her complaint in 2008 also ordered restoration of the land from the plot numbers 723 &790 in favour of the family on which the school exists.
The district administration had failed to produce any valid transfer deed before the court to say that the land was donated by her father-in-law to the school, she said.
