Biota Bandana celebrated

KORAPUT: ‘Biota Bandana’ utsav, the age-old glorious maritime past tradition of the State, was celebrated here on the occasion of Kartik Purnima on Monday. Gadadhar Parida, district Collector, attending the function as chief guest, joined the devotees in releasing the little handmade boats to float in the waters of Narendra Sarovar at Sabara Srikhetra.
While thousands of devotees from all across the district visited the temple of Lord Jagannath, the number of tribal men and women remained the greatest attraction of the day for their involvement in each and every section of the festival. Apart from reaching with their families, section of tribals from the neighbouring villages supplied the urban people with materials for making the boats.
Employees of Nalco celebrated Boita Bandana, with enthusiasm and gaiety at Sabari Lake in Damanjodi. P.K.Mohapatra, ED (M&R), R.C.Das, GM (Project) and G.S.Mohapatra DGM (Admn) of Nalco attended the function to perform the rituals amidst the resounding clanging of cymbals and the tumultuous thundering of drums. Sweets were distributed by the company on the occasion to spread the message of brotherhood.
