Forum for protection of environment

KORAPUT: Koraput town may have to face the devastating impact of huge landslides from nearby mountains if they are not protected in the near future, said Mihir Jena, an environmentalist.
He was speaking at a meeting held at Sishu Bhavan here on Monday to form a forum for protection of urban environment. Increase of slums in the low land and irrational encroachment on the mountains all around the town has decreased the green cover in and around the town.
Special groups were formed to draw people from different professions for building a conscious citizen forum to work in this regard. Among others, Jyoti Prakash Rath of Foundation for Ecological Studies(FES), Sarat Kumar Patnaik and Satyanarayan Choudhury of Koraput Farmers Association (KFA) attended the meeting.
