KORAPUT: Central University of Orissa is coming up with school of health sciences here in the next one year, according to Surabhi Banerjee, professor.
Action plan
While the action plan for setting up the much-awaited medical college at Koraput is in progress, the university will have various courses on paramedical and allied health sciences like nursing and medical lab technicians. Jamia Hamdard University of New Delhi and Narayan Hridayalaya of Banagalore have expressed their keenness to extend technical support to the university.
The school of health sciences could go a long way in creating grassroot level health professionals from the youth in the region with the guidance of the advisory committee to be formed with the involvement of local medicos.
Further, centre for tribal welfare and community development is another proposal by the university.
The centre will be launched in June this year for the integral development of the region with more and more youth getting opportunities.
Short-term courses
The centre will conduct need-based short-term skill development programmes for the youth apart from enriching their knowledge base.
