DRM inaugurates two dormitories and one ladies waiting room


KORAPUT: The much awaited train from Koraput to Rourkela would be operational anytime this month, D.Kamila, DRM, SE Railway said here on Saturday. Mr. Kamila who had reached the town from Visakhapatnam inaugurated the first two dormitories and one ladies waiting room in the railway station at Koraput. Later, speaking to the media he said that the station was included in the list of Adarsh railway stations following the declaration made in last year's rail budget and all efforts were made to improve the passenger amenities in the station.
The work to raise the level of the platform and extending the platforms so as to accommodate 16 coaches were in progress, works like shifting the current ticket booking counter to another building and widening the entrance gate of the station were on the cards, he said. Further, the provision of two canteens, one magazine stall and a PCO booth would soon be materialised in the station to facilitate the need of the passengers. Talks with IRCTC were already made for opening the canteens. Measures were also taken for making an air conditioned lounge for the VIP passengers.
While his department was taking up various measures to upgrade the quality of services in the station it was also keen in giving a better life for its employees and the people of the town. In this connection, the abandoned children's park in the railway colony would be revived for the children very soon, he added.
