Enrolment drive for children to be launched next month

KORAPUT: Special enrolment drive for the children to join schools in Koraput district would be launched in a big way from next month, Prashant Kumar Das, DPC, Sarva Sikhya Abhiyan said at Koraput on Saturday.
He was speaking at a coordination meeting with the NGOs and eminent personalities seeking their support to make the drive successful.
The campaign with an aim to create awareness among the people on the importance of education, would take the support of the traditional form of desia naat for effective dissemination of the message.
Expressing his concern over non functioning of the schools in many parts of the district in addition to the teacher absentism, he said that with the spread of the salient features of the right to education act among the masses through such campaigns these challenges could also be overcome effectively .
In order to achieve greater retention percentage in the schools special summer camps for the slow learners and engaging short term volunteers to create interest among the newly admitted children in the schools were planned as a part of the process. Each of the children joining in the school would be given attractive educational kit. While the resources of the district will be utilised for the campaign, UNICEF had contributed Rs.65 Lakhs for the process, he added.
