Woman naxal surrenders

Staff Reporter

BERHAMPUR: A 19-year-old female naxal commander Manita Kumbruka alias Kumari surrendered in Rayagada district of south Orissa on Saturday evening.
This girl from Jamba village under Bisamkatak police station in Rayagada district had joined the Maoists at a young age. She was also involved in the naxal attack on Nayagarh in 2008. Several cases of naxal violence were pending against her in different police stations of south Orissa.
She surrendered before the Rayagada Superintendent of Police (SP), Anup Krishna in her olive green naxal uniform.
She said she had decided to leave the violent fold as she felt the Maoist organisation had totally deviated from the ideologies which were part of their propaganda. She also alleged that seniors of the violent organisation involved in violent corrupt anti-social activities and the lower cadres were being exploited by them. She was also attracted toward leading the life of a normal person.
Mr. Krishna said she would be rehabilitated as per the government norms with adequate security.
There are chances that she may reveal some key data regarding the operation of naxals in south Orissa as she happened to be the commander of Jangudi Dalam of the Maoist outfit. Later she joined the team of naxal commander Azad as a deputy commander.
